Following an outbreak of the deadly Vishii's Meningitis (see p. 23 for a special-edition article on Vishii's), new President Gaji Long has committed $22,000,000 to researching a vaccine for this fearsome brain disease. This was met with jubilation from the Mishelviian medical community, who have been working since 1993, the year Vishii's was discovered, to produce an effective vaccine.
In 1998, Viioxin, the only antibiotic approved to treat Vishii's, was introduced to the market. By early 2000, several strains resistant to Viioxin were already circulating in livestock at the border of the Mishelvii National Rainforest. Since 2004, nearly all strains of Vishii's seen in hospitals have been mostly or totally resistant to Viioxin.
The only existing vaccine can cause allergic reactions, only protects about 55% of those who take it, and wears off after 3-5 months.
